Laura Bongers Oh, absolutely. I actually reach my limit on fiction work at about 4K words. I’m at a point right now where I’m writing my first drafts as close to ‘done’ as I can, so while my word count is lower, it takes longer and is higher quality which saves time later. I’m also just working on one fiction project which is different than I’ve done in the past.
NaNo, when I worry less about my first draft being polished, is easier. I can typically get upwards of 8K a day. This year will be fun because it’s my first time having the whole day to write.
If I’m writing non fiction, I can get about two articles of varying length before I’m ready to move on to something else.
I definitely need more breaks now that I do this full time. I don’t want to burn myself out so I’ll give myself time to breathe or write on different projects. Since my rapid release project requires working on a single project at once, I don’t have as much freedom to just pick up something new. I actually find I work best when I can write on two fiction projects at once. But for now I’m powering through!
