Reflecting On My Writing Progress and Updates in 2024
Writing progress update for 2024! I thought this would be a great time to do a little behind the scenes for how I approach a new year and new writing goals!
Especially having just finished a book in November, 2024 really feels like a fresh start for me. It’s a time to hit the ground running come January now that I’ve celebrated the release of The Wings of Shattered Fire.
New year hits a lot different this time around. I discovered a lot about myself in 2023 and what I am capable of now that I’m not the only one to take care of during the day. Having a baby running around definitely slowed me down much more than I initially anticipated, but I also found new ways to sneak in some quick writing time and build some productive writing habits.
That hasn’t stopped me from being a bit ambitious with my writing goals. I’m a former athlete, so I really can’t help it when I go to set goals. When I look at 2024 and my author goals, I want to push myself, but in a comfortable setting. So, I think about what sort of novels are on the docket.
- TCOFD (Smoke and Shadow finale)
- Fall anthology story
- Star Remnant (Blue Star #6, Star series #3)
- Yivi’s story (Smoke and Shadow spin-off)
- AU stories for Patreon

How I approach these stories is a bit of what I used to do back when I first started writing full time (which I am in no way capable of writing at that same pace, but my strategy can be adapted to my current situation). I had some really good daily habits for maintaining productive writing, and a lot of those I’ve adapted to take into 2024.
The permanent story in the drafting process is going to be TCOFD, while the others will be written in the order above.
What does that mean? It means I’m constantly writing TCOFD, but I will always have a ‘side’ project to be working on as well. The reason I’m doing this is because TCOFD is a massive undertaking and, to be honest, it’s super…
